The jobholder supervises custodians, head custodians, floor technicians, contracted custodial services, and any other assigned staff. S/he schedules and assigns work, and inspects areas to confirm tasks were completed properly. The jobholder is responsible for maintaining the buildings in top condition.  S/he is responsible for issuing supplies and equipment, and for maintaining records of services completed. The Custodial Services Supervisor must also be knowledgeable in the area of general maintenance and upkeep of the college campus.

Essential Duties/Functions:

*Supervise and participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the college facilities. Inspect facilities to insure staff is providing a clean and safe environment conducive to the learning process.

*Maintain adequate inventories necessary to maintain building and grounds, up to and including supplies and equipment.

*Perform emergency repair services as necessary.

*Schedule and assign duties and special cleaning tasks for GTCC custodial staff and contracted custodial staff.

*Train new employees and contracted staff, and conduct professional development activities.

*Coordinate and supervise the arrangement of facilities for special events.

*Maintain documentation for services completed, GTCC employee and contracted staff time records.

*Conduct initial and annual GTCC employee evaluations.

*Address and resolve issues of faculty, staff, students and the general public.

*Demonstrate and successfully meet expectations in performance attributes designated as critical: customer service, initiative leadership, planning/organization and quality of work.

*Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork

*Assist in the selection, assignment, scheduling and training of the custodial staff and any contracted custodial services.

*Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

* Daily: Manager of Custodial Services re updates, schedules

* Daily: Maintenance, HVAC, Electrical, Grounds departments re work orders, updates

* Daily: Administrative Assistants re cleaning issues, updates

* Several times a week: faculty, staff, vendors re cleaning needs

* Monthly: deans, division chairs, directors re planning

* Monthly: contracted services re cleaning discussions

Educational & Certification Requirements:

* High School Diploma/GED Certificate

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

* Five years of supervisory experience.

* General knowledge and expertise in cleaning techniques

* General knowledge of maintenance functions.

* Ability to lift and carry heavy and bulky objects up to 70 pounds with proper equipment.

* Ability to work rapidly and correctly on task requiring physical strength and stamina

* Ability to maintain confidentiality in the operations of the department

* Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.

* Demonstrated extensive knowledge for the care/cleaning of carpeted and tile surfaces, custodial products and equipment.

* Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with manager, co-workers, faculty, staff, students and the general public.

* Ability to write routine correspondence and reports.

* Ability and willingness to work any shift and at any campus as assigned.

Departmental/Job Specific Requirements:

* Ability to push, pull, stoop, bend, climb, and walk. 

* Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.  Also requires climbing ladders, balancing, as well as physical exertion to manually move lift, carry pull and push heavy objects or materials.

* Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round.

* Participation and successful completion of federal, state, or locally required training  included but not limited to Blood borne Pathogens, HAZMAT, Chemical Safety, Emergency Action Plans, Asbestos Awareness, Emergency Equipment (fire Ext.), First Aid, PPE, Reporting Practices, Anti-Harassment, Personal Information Protection Training is mandatory.

* Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

* Due to nature of job, an acceptable background and credit report is required.

Working Conditions:

* Work requires climbing, crawling, or working in awkward or cramped positions.

* Work requires carrying objects or loads that weigh 50 pounds or more.

* Some (15% - 30%) exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risks.
