Part-time instructor positions are available to teach adult education courses offered at the Guilford Technical Community College. Courses can be offered during the day, evening, or weekend hours.  Instructor must be able to teach Reading, Language, and Math.   This position reports directly to the Coordinator of ABE/GED/ AHS.  The Instructor has the following responsibilities:  Incorporates technology appropriately in classroom, use diverse learning strategies, complete all paperwork timely and accurately, attends College meetings as requested and Teach Basic Skills and GED courses. 
Essential Duties/Functions:

* Assist students in improving reading skills through phoneme segmentation, vocabulary and fluency and comprehension strategies.

* Conduct pre-post test when applicable.

* Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.

* Maintain a knowledge base in adult learning content areas, and college and community resources.

* Meet with students according to the published schedule of classes.

* Provide timely feedback to student on a daily basis (Monday – Friday).

* Advise students regarding goals, progress and attendance.

* Implement student retention strategies.

* Demonstrate proficiency in teaching, classroom management, advising students and responding to their needs.

* Maintain course management system to track student progress and quality hours of instruction.

* Attend appropriate staff and faculty meetings.

* Assist with student admissions and registration at start of each semester.

* Attend and participate in appropriate local, regional and state training to enhance job performance.

* Perform other duties as assigned to promote the mission and goals of the Adult Education program and Guilford Technical Community College.

* Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to fulfill work functions.

* Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Educational & Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required.

Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

* Must have a general understanding of computer-based instruction and learning methodologies.

* Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills

* Background/knowledge in Research Based Instructional strategies.

* Have a general understanding of the Reading/Language Common Core Standards

* Ability to teach mechanics of Language and essay writing.

* Must be proficient in computer applications and software systems.

* Must have strong customer relation skills.

* Must be able to adjust to diverse student populations and flexible work conditions/situations.

* Must possess fluent reading; verbal and written English communication skills.

* Must have ability to develop lesson plans and curriculum.

* Must have ability to teach to a variety of learning styles.

* Must be able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

Departmental/Job Specific Requirements:

* Be knowledgeable of adult learners.

* Possess ability to interact with individuals of diverse cultures.

* Ensure all records, accountability documents, attendance rosters and any supporting documents are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the Basic Skills Department / Community

Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited exposure to physical risk. Be able to perform duties, which require standing, bending, stooping, lifting/carrying 20 pounds.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

* Enhance job skills through participation in various professional development.

* Remain knowledgeable about education issues through reading of reports, periodicals, and other documents.

* Maintain a positive attitude appropriate with dealing with public, staff, and students.

* Dress in a manner that is professional and appropriate

* Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

Upon employment and within first 30 days of hire, must complete the following college training matrix but not limited t  Discrimination & Anti-Harassment; Personal Information Protection (PIP); Ethics, and “Shooter on Campus.” Annual refreshers are required thereafter.
