Summary:

The Systems Administrator II – Security, develop, implement and monitors the college-wide security program supporting use of the technology infrastructure including security practices, standards, and programs.  S/he coordinates effective security awareness programs to educate college users on the acceptable use policies, security policies, and IT best practices.  S/he conducts routine audits of security policies, tests security systems and disaster recovery solutions.  S/he reviews and documents current performance indicators to assist in the management of technical projects, tasks, and staff to maximize resource utilizations and minimize security risks.  S/he provides recommendations on technology requirements and security strategies for the college.  The Systems Administrator II - Security assists in creating procedures for IT department activities and ensures procedures are followed to create stability within the department and the college.

Essential Duties/Functions:

· Administers the ITS security infrastructure and PCI for audit and federal/state compliance.

· Assist in the development of departmental documents; architectural solutions, standard configuration documents, procedures, work processes, guidelines and reference material kept in the document library.

· Monitor security solutions, regularly verify systems performance, and direct staff on resolving security issues.

· Serve as the internal information security consultant to the college.

· Recommend and promote activities fostering information security awareness across the college.

· Perform information security risk assessments and serve as an internal auditor and investigator for security issues.

· Implement and enforce information security policies and procedures for the college.

· Advise the Operations Security Manager on current information, technologies and related regulatory issues affecting the college.

· Monitor the internal control systems to ensure appropriate access levels are maintained and appropriate maintenance of access lists is accomplished. This includes VPN access for outsourced and contracted solutions/services. 

· Determine and report the performance of deployed security solutions.

· Assist in Project Management working to standardize technical solutions and their implementation.

· Demonstrate and model the College employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

· Perform all other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Difficult Challenges 

· Evaluating evolving security threats and developing security responses to mitigate.

· Evaluating new technology and developing security practices to ensure continued data integrity.

· Providing oversight of account management for employees and students.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational & Certification Requirements:

· A Bachelor’s degree in a computer technology or information technology field is required.  A Master’s Degree is preferred.  

· CISA or CISSP strongly preferred.

· Certifications such as ITIL Fundamentals, PMP, A+, MCSE, MCP, Network+, INET+ preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

· Minimum of five years of Information Technology experience with two years’ experience as a System Administrator.

· Experience working in a Higher Education environment strongly preferred

· One year of Information Security experience strongly preferred.

· Project Management skills and demonstrated ability to lead project through implementation

· Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to privacy and security of information.

· Knowledge of security related standards including PCI, State, IIPS, ITIL, and COBIT.

· Knowledge of security related tools including Snort, Tripwire, Nessus, AD, Trend and SCCM.

· Awareness of network topologies, servers, network architecture, software desktop, phone and virtualization systems.

· Ability to research information and document work processes and procedural guidelines as needed to support IT.

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

· Demonstrated resourcefulness, a self-starter able to work with limited supervision.

· Ability to prioritize tasks while handling multiple assignments with strict deadlines.

· Ability to take initiative and address issues promptly.

· Strong communication skills.

Departmental/Job Specific Requirements:

· Able to sit at a computer terminal for long periods of time.

· Able to follow instructions and comply with operating parameters and guidelines.

· Able to efficiently manage time and resources with strong organizational skills.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional overtime.

· Strong customer service and communications skills, able to take initiative and address issues promptly.

· Upon employment and within first 30 days of hire, must complete the following college training matrix but not limited to:  Discrimination & Anti-Harassment; Personal Information Protection (PIP), Ethics, and “Shooter on Campus.”  Annual refreshers are required thereafter.

· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

Working Conditions:

· Work requires mostly sitting with some walking or standing.

· Work requires carrying objects or loads that weigh between 20 and 50 pounds.

· Rare (less than 15%) exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risks.
