Summary:

The CJ OE Lab Assistant works within the Criminal Justice Occupational Extension and supports program functions by providing customer service, data support and documentation services. It will also work to maintain program compliance with accreditation standards according to North Carolina Department of Justice, Training and Standards Commission and other relevant external bodies. This position reports directly to the Director of BLET and CJ OE, with oversight by the Division Chair. 

Essential Duties/Functions:

This position provides support to the Criminal Justice Occupational Extension Program in the following areas:

· Assist the Director of BLET and Criminal Justice Occupational Extension and the with all course paperwork 

· Assist the Director of BLET and Criminal Justice Occupational Extension with data collection/ entry, copying, faxing, emailing and postage of various program content.

· Assist in the preparation of reports, contracts and any other documents that the Director of BLET & CJ OE may request.

· Assist Director of BLET and Criminal Justice Occupational Extension with lab and/ or class services to include gathering needed equipment, room set-up, take-down and exam proctoring.

· Cleaning specialty rooms/ labs to include vacuuming, dusting, etc.

· Transporting of supplies and/ or equipment to the various GTCC campuses. 

· Assist the Director of BLET and Criminal Justice Occupational Extension with Scenario/ Role-Playing Exercises

· Assist the Director of BLET and Criminal Justice Occupational Extension with evaluation of classroom or lab activities

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational & Certification Requirements:

Minimum requirements:
- Must Have High School Diploma or GED.
- North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred requirements:
-Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
-Current instructor certification by NC Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

Minimum requirements:
-Relevant field experience in public safety.

Preferred requirements:
-Relevant field experience in emergency medical science.

The CJ OE Lab Assistant shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy.  He/she shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned.  The CJ OE Lab Assistant must be able to:

Specific Departmental Requirements:

Stay abreast of CDC standards for employees, students, and visitors.

Working Conditions:

1. Physical Requirements

a. Hear and see

b. Stand extended periods of time (up to 4 hours)

c. Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. 

d. Stoop, bend, squat, lift, reach overhead

e. Use and manipulate Criminal Justice/ Law Enforcement training equipment according to industry standards 

f. Participate in and demonstrate physical aspects of Law enforcement work and physical training

Other:

1. Criminal history checks and drug screening with acceptable results are required. 

2. Requires some evening and weekend hours

3. Must work at some off campus and community locations.
 
4. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

· Maintain student records.

· Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
