Summary:

The EMS Lab Assistant works within the EMS Curriculum program and supports program functions by providing customer service, data support and documentation services. It will also work to maintain program compliance with accreditation standards according to GTCC, AHA, CoAEMSP and CAPSE. This position reports directly to the Program Director of the EMS Program (Curriculum), with oversight by the Division Chair. 

Essential Duties/Functions:

This position provides support to the OE EMS Program in the following areas:

· Assist the Program Director of EMS Curriculum and the Administrative Assistant with all course paperwork 

· Assist the Program Director of EMS Curriculum and the Administrative Assistant with data collection/ entry, copying, faxing, emailing and postage of various program content.

· Assist in the preparation of reports, contracts and any other documents that the Program Director of EMS Curriculum and/ or the Administrative Assistant may request.

· Assist Program Director of EMS Curriculum with lab and/ or class services to include gathering needed equipment, room set-up, take-down and exam proctoring.

· Cleaning specialty rooms/ labs to include vacuuming, dusting, etc.

· Transporting of supplies and/ or equipment to the various GTCC campuses. 

· Assist the Program Director of EMS Curriculum with Scenario/ Role-Playing Exercises

· Assist the Program Director of EMS Curriculum with evaluation of classroom or lab activities

Professional Development

Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:

· participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation

· participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies  

Administration

Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records to include:

· maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment

· providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials, and maintaining safe working conditions

· complying with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations

Student Support

Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:

· conducting recruiting activities

· promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success 

· assisting students with the registration and graduation process

· referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate 

College Service

Support college-wide endeavors to include:

· collaboration with faculty and staff from other divisions/departments to promote communication, coordinate schedules, and support student success

· participating in GTCC institutional initiatives

· collaborating with educational partners, business/industry, and/or external agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission of GTCC

· Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational & Certification Requirements:

Minimum requirements:
- Associate degree in EMS or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro Software
- Valid NC Class C Driver’s License
- NC EMT Credential

Preferred requirements:
-Associate Degree in EMS or Related Field
-Five+ years of relevant field experience in criminal justice (law enforcement, corrections, probation/parole, homeland security, etc.)
-Community college/higher education experience.
-Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
-Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems
-EMS-Specific Courses (ACLS, BLS, PALS, PHTLS, etc.)
-NC EMS Level I Instructor -Experience working with EMS personnel

The EMS Lab Assistant shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy.  He/she shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned.  The EMS Lab Assistant must be able to:

Specific Departmental Requirements:

Stay abreast of CDC standards for employees, students, and visitors.

Working Conditions:

1. Physical Requirements

a. Hear and see

b. Stand extended periods of time (up to 4 hours)

c. Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. 

d. Stoop, bend, squat, lift, reach overhead

e. Use and manipulate EMS equipment according to industry standards 

f. Participate in and demonstrate physical aspects of EMS work and physical training

Other:

1. Criminal history checks and drug screening with acceptable results are required. 

2. Requires some evening and weekend hours

3. Must work at some off campus and community locations.

4. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

· Maintain student records.

· Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
