Lab Assistant/Purchasing & Inventory Technician, Health Sciences (Part-Time, 25 Hours)

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Health Science Division leadership, the lab assistant is responsible for the inventory, purchasing, and records maintenance of all Health Science Division equipment and supplies.  This individual will utilize technology to prepare purchase orders and maintain inventory and records in compliance with state statutes.  The lab assistant may also assist Health Science faculty in prepping labs for instruction and assisting with the breakdown of labs after instruction.  

Essential Duties/Functions:

* Research approved vendors for supply and equipment purchases for health science programs

* Prepare purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment

* Coordinate receipt of supplies and equipment ensuring appropriate delivery and or storage

* Maintain product data as well as packing receipts, shipping documents, and delivery logs 

* Assist in conducting annual physical inventories of health sciences capitalized and non-capitalized assets in coordination with the Business Support Manager

* Periodically dispose of equipment/supplies through approved college surplus procedures
 
* Establish equipment maintenance agreements and coordinate repair/maintenance as needed

* Assist faculty in prepping labs for instruction as requested

* Assist faculty in breaking down labs and storing supplies and equipment after instruction as requested

* Handle and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with federal and state laws.

* Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

* Other duties as assigned

Difficult Challenges

* Physical reconciliation of inventory items for multiple programs on multiple campuses

* Correctly interpreting state regulations related to the purchasing process

* Storage  and organization of inventory 

* Assisting with lab set-up and breakdown for a variety of health related programs

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational & Certification Requirements:

Minimum requirements:   

* Associate Degree required

Preferred requirements:

* Associate Degree in health related field, Office/Business or Medical Office Administration 

* OSHA chemical or biological hazard certifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

Minimum requirements:

* Experience in one or more of the following areas:  purchasing, fixed asset management, lab support/maintenance

* Competency with Microsoft Office Suite products (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.)

Preferred requirements: 

* Extensive experience in one or more of the following areas:  purchasing, fixed asset management, lab support/maintenance

* Experience with e-procurement systems 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

* Strong analytical and organizational skills.

* Ability to accurately compile records and monitor information/data in an organized manner.

* Proficient use of personal computers; particularly the use of spreadsheets, word processing and email (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook)

* Knowledge of state laws and regulations and community college policies and procedures pertaining to both fixed asset management and public procurement.

* Ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.

* Ability to work in a team environment both within the division and throughout the college.

* Ability to display initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems.

* Ability to communicate effectively

Departmental/Job Specific Requirements:

Valid driver’s license and good driving record.  

The following (compliance) training is required and must be completed within the first 30 days of hire with annual refresher training thereafter: 

* Ethics

* Safety/Shooter on Campus

* Personal Information Protection Training (PIP)

* Anti-Discrimination/Harassment& Title IX

* Other training may be required as determined applicable.

* Bloodborne Pathogens/OSHA

Working Conditions:

* Ability, stamina, and physical strength to move heavy items 

* Sight to drive, view, and locate inventoried items

* Speech and hearing sufficient for communicating

* Flexibility to move items around labs and storage spaces

* Manual dexterity to operate technology/equipment, write and use a keyboard/computer

* Able to climb a ladder to reach objects on shelves that are four or more feet from the ground

* Able to travel between campuses
